Nasal decongestants can help, but overuse can harm.

ITV recently highlighted the risks of becoming dependent on nasal sprays, especially when used for conditions like Eustachian tube dysfunction.

Many people turn to decongestants as a first step - but they’re not designed for long-term use. If you find yourself relying on them regularly, it might be time to speak to an ENT specialist.

You could be masking an underlying issue that needs proper assessment and care.

Always follow medical advice and use these sprays only as directed.

In this video, we explore why tinnitus can feel unpredictable - why it comes and goes, or sometimes feels louder. The answer lies in how your brain processes signals.

🌀 When you’re stressed, ill, tired or anxious, your 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐱 (the part of your brain responsible for assessing threats) can become more focused on the tinnitus, making it feel more intense.

🌀 The 𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 in the brain also plays a role by highlighting what it considers important. If your brain senses tinnitus could be a threat (even subconsciously), it brings it to the forefront, increasing your perception of it.

🌀 At the same time, 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 can increase your sensitivity to sound, making tinnitus more noticeable, especially on difficult days.

The goal is never to fight the sound, but to change how your brain responds to it. That’s the path towards lasting relief and better tinnitus management.
